Unfortunately, very little is known about the Gogerty family. What we do know is that the head of household was James L. Gogerty, his wife Katharine (Kate). There was another person showing as living in the house. It is believed to have been James' brother, John. According to the Pueblo city directory, James L. was the Superintendant of Terminals for the Denver & Rio Grande Railroad and John was a machinist for the same company. The directory only shows that they were in the house for the year 1902. Additional information is being sought. Hopefully, more will begin to emerge.

Personal Information: Per the 1880 U.S. Census, James' parents were John (a Blacksmith) and Nora (a Housekeeper). Both were born in Ireland. James was the oldest of seven children (Mary F., Rose T., John C., Edward, Frederick, and Francis P.) All but the youngest two children were born in New York. The younger siblings were born in Illinois. The 1880 U.S. Census (Lines 6-14) shows that James was single and a Railroad clerk at the age of 21. James' brothers were John C. (b: 1867, NY), Edward (b: 1873), Frederick (b: 1873, IL), and Francis P. (b: 1877, IL), and sisters were Mary F. (b: 1862, NY) and Rose T. (1867, NY). In the 1902 Pueblo City Directory, James L., Kate, and John are living in the house. There is an Edward D. living in Pueblo at 10 Block Q. It is unknown if this was James' younger brother or not. The 1930 U.S. Census (Line 30) shows James is 71 years old and living in Ft. Wayne, IN. There is no indication of Kate in this record. Another source shows the James L. Gogerty living in Decatur, Macon County, Illinois at the time of his death. A 1900 Census was found that looks to be for this family, but has some minor discrepancies. These could have been caused by the census taker. |
